New Tires on Himalayan – Front & Rear

New Tires on Himalayan for Better Traction

Purchased new tires for my Royal Enfield Himalayan this week. I ordered the tires and had install done through Edward’s Cycle Service down the street in Fincastle, VA.

The stock tires that come with the bike aren’t terrible, but I had quite a lot of slippage. I was sliding on rocks and in the mud – tires with better traction is definitely a good idea around here!

Pirelli Front & Dunlop Rear

I decided on the Pirelli MT21 for the front and the Dunlop D606 for the rear. The tread on these versus the stock tires is much better and will do better off-road. There’s a film on them factory that lasts about 50 driving miles. This film can make them slightly slick, so I know that until that’s gone they won’t do as well as I’d like. I’ve had these tires before, so I know how they handle off-road, and am stoked I was able to get them for the bike so quickly.

I also really like the look of these tires on the bike. Would have swapped the tires myself, but it’s going to be a nice weekend and I really wanted to get some riding in. Unfortunately, every time I’ve tried changing tires, I’ve ended up busting the tubes, haha. I definitely need to learn to change tires and tubes without destroying the new tubes in the process. If I pop a tube on the trail, it would be nice to be able to change it myself right there.
