Himalayan LED Lightbulb Replacement

LED Lightbulb Replacement for the Himalayan was a Must

I ride my Royal Enfield Himalayan on some seriously twisty and dark roads at night. The stock headlight bulb just wasn’t cutting it for me. I can’t count the number of times a deer popped out from the side of the road that I never saw due to the headlight. An LED lightbulb replacement was necessary. I ended up getting a Cyclops Adventure Sports 10.0 H4 LED Headlight bulb from Rocky Mountain ATV/MC, and what a difference!

The Specifications

These specifications for the new Himalayan LED headlight bulb are taken straight from the Cyclops Adventure Sports website, for this headlight bulb.

The Install

Cyclops 10.0 H4 LED Headlight BulbThe install of the Cyclops Adventure Sports LED headlight bulb for my Himalayan was interesting, at best. I followed the super simple instructions, and it just didn’t fit. I didn’t want to cut holes in the housing to make it fit which I’ve seen some people do, seems like it’s worked for them). There’s just so much to fit into the housing when swapping to LED. There are so many things (fan/heatsink, extra wires) to fit into the housing, that I honestly don’t know how I managed to get it all in there.I pushed and I squished and did finally get everything in there, albeit upside down. But the housing isn’t closed all the way, and there is no seal around it, so the odds of water getting in, things shorting out, etc. are probably pretty high.

Long story short, on my Himalayan, the LED headlight bulb is currently installed upside down. The install was way more of a pain than I was anticipating. But in the end, the wires are connected properly, it doesn’t shake or rattle, it’s just not upright and I honestly don’t know how long it will last with everything being crammed in there.

The Review

The Good

Upside down or not, I’m glad I got swapped to the LED headlight bulb on my Himalayan. The low beam is now almost better than the high beam was stock. It makes a huge difference! I know other drivers can see me better, and I can definitely see deer and other animals much better than I could before.

The Bad

Honestly (I know, sounds weird), this LED bulb is almost too bright when it comes to some street signs. Especially the yellow ones – it’s almost blinding. I wanted bright, but reflective signs have a glare that’s borderline dangerous sometimes.

It should not have been this much of a pain to install. I thought the LED lightbulb replacement would be quick and easy.

I’m pretty sure I could have spent way less money and had a similar experience in terms of problems replacing the bulb. I wanted to go with a good brand, not too expensive, but not cheap either. I figured a good name brand would ensure it held up offroad, with all the vibrations and whatnot. In my attempt to save money, I didn’t get the full headlight and bulb replacement kit that I know fits everything properly. Not the best choice, as I don’t think this will last long.

Whenever this LED bulb goes, I will definitely spend more money and replace the entire headlight housing along with replacing the actual bulb.

The Photos

I took these sitting on the bike with the center stand up in my driveway. I tried to get the before and after photos in the same spot and at the same height.
